Moorings in Hamble are on the west bank of the River Hamble in Hampshire, just inside the entrance from Southampton Water. The village, formally Hamble-le-Rice, has three large marinas and a marina boatyard, and the harbour authority licenses midstream moorings on piles and pontoons along the river.
Moorings in Hamble
- Hamble Point Marina: run by MDL Marinas at the mouth of the river. 230 berths for boats up to 30m, a dry stack with 137 berths for motorboats up to 10m, and a 75 ton boat hoist.
- Port Hamble Marina: MDL's 310 berth marina on Satchell Lane, within walking distance of the village, for boats up to 24m. It has the fuel berth.
- Mercury Yacht Harbour: MDL's 360 berth marina where Badnam Creek meets the river, about 20 minutes' walk from the village. Deep water at all states of tide, for boats up to 24m.
- Hamble Yacht Services: a marina and boatyard with berths, dry stack, dry sailing, storage ashore and two travel hoists. Premier Marinas bought it in 2026 and kept the name.
- Harbour authority moorings: more than 600 midstream moorings managed for The Crown Estate, along the whole river. They are piled berths, some with privately owned pontoons, and continuous pontoons.
Midstream moorings are allocated from a waiting list, first come, first served within each mooring category. The authority says some categories come up fairly quickly, while the most popular sizes can mean a wait of ten years or longer.
On the water
The River Hamble Harbour Authority is part of Hampshire County Council and is run by the River Hamble Harbour Board. Its harbour office is across the river at Warsash.
- Access: entry is possible by day or night and at all states of tide for boats drawing 2.5m or less. The channel scours itself and is not dredged.
- Speed limit: 6 knots from Number 1 mark at the river entrance, and the authority says it will be enforced.
- The ebb: at its peak the tide can fall 80cm in 30 minutes. The shoals at Hook Spit and Hamble Point are steep and need a wide berth.
- Upriver: masted yachts can use the main channel as far as the first A27 bridge at Bursledon.
